Oh boy, July’s kind of zipping by, huh? I mean, same old story, right? It’s halfway done, and the PlayStation Store’s July sale is in full swing with some juicy deals. Like, have you even seen the discounts on PS5 and PS4 games? There’s this one PS5 exclusive that’s kind of a big deal (and yeah, you don’t wanna sleep on it).
Right, so let’s talk about this game – Returnal or whatever. It’s on sale, a whopping 58% off! Do the math, and that’s $29.39 from the usual $69.99. Seriously, if you’re into that kind of game – roguelike, third-person shooting stuff – you might wanna get moving. This deal won’t be around forever. Like, mark your calendar or something because it’s wrapping up by July 17 at a bizarrely precise 2:59 a.m. ET. Not sure who picked that time, but hey, it’s there.
Anyway, quick sidetrack – ever find yourself thinking about aliens taking over? Maybe I’ve watched too many movies. But this game kinda hits on that, more or less. You’ve got Selene crash-landing on some creepy alien planet (as one does), and she’s having a really bad time, like dying a lot and restarting. If you’re into things constantly changing – both the planet and her gear – this might be your jam.
Oh yeah, forgot the big numbers – back in the pandemic-ridden year of 2021, Returnal got solid reviews. Metacritic shows it pretty high up with an 86 average based on 115 critics. Not too shabby, really. It even snagged a couple of awards. Best Action Game? Check. Coolest Audio Design? Also, check. Nice little ego boost for the creators, I’d say.
We thought it rocked too. Threw a 10 out of 10 at it. Kind of a must-have for PS5 according to, well, us. Housemarque meshed roguelike chaos with some high-tier magic, crafting something unique yet oddly familiar. Weird how it can be both, right? Returnal keeps things interesting with surprises lurking at every corner, narratively and gameplay-wise.
So yeah, that’s the deal with Returnal. If this sounds like your thing, catch it before it’s gone. Or just ignore me, and let it pass. No idea why I noticed this, but maybe it’ll latch onto your curiosity. Who knows?
