Man, so Meta dropped this Quest 3S Xbox Edition headset less than a week ago, and boom, it’s already gone if you’re trying to snag it straight from Meta. Of course, somehow, it’s still hanging around at some other retailers, like lurking in a corner store, unnoticed. Weird, right?
Meta had piped up earlier about how the Quest 3S Xbox Edition was going to be “extremely limited” — like, blink and you’ll miss it. So, here we are, folks blinking, and poof, it’s already out of stock on Meta’s site for both the U.S. and the U.K. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but was it popular, or did they just not have that many to begin with?
If you’re in the U.S., you can still nab one at Best Buy. And folks in the U.K., Argos and EE got your back. But, get this — even the official Xbox site points you to Meta’s “Out of Stock” page. It’s like sending you to a party only to find out it’s been canceled. Classic, huh?
Oh, and no shocker here, scalpers are flipping these babies for loads more on eBay. Because why wouldn’t they?
Now, functionally, the Quest 3S Xbox Edition isn’t anything snazzy over the regular Quest 3S. Same everything — display, lenses, processor. I think they just slapped on a new color, threw in an Xbox controller, and bundled it with three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. You know, the one that lets you play a bunch of cloud games — though, not every game’s invited to this shindig.
So, the bundle’s got this whole “Look, you’re saving money!” vibe. At $400, it costs 75 bucks less than if you pieced it all together yourself. Savings on savings, if you ask me.
Remember ages ago in 2016 when Microsoft dangled the carrot saying the Xbox One X would support “high fidelity VR”? Yeah, still waiting on that. This Quest 3S Xbox Edition is about as close as they’ve come to making an Xbox VR dream a reality. But heads up — no, you can’t play Xbox games in actual VR. It’s like watching a movie through a big ol’ headset. Still kinda cool, though.
Maybe someday, they’ll surprise us with 3D rendering so games pop out like those books with 3D glasses. Or not. For now, it’s just another way to game, but with a twist.
Update, July 27th, 2025 – Correction alert! Earlier on, there was this goof where we said the Xbox Edition bundle’s total value was $415. Nope, it’s actually $475. Math, right? Always keeping us on our toes.
