So, you know how some companies just suddenly decide to drop big news on a random Tuesday? Well, Bigscreen thought it’d be fun to throw us for a loop by announcing they’re finally shipping their latest PC VR headset, the Beyond 2. Yeah, apparently this thing is super slim and light, but—hold on, got sidetracked—what’s really wild? They had a bit of a hiccup with production. But now, they’re shipping, and it’s kind of a free-for-all till August. Or is it September? I can’t keep up.
Anyway, Beyond 2 and its slightly fancier sibling, Beyond 2e (this one’s got eye-tracking because why not), are up for grabs. They’ll cost you a pretty penny though—$1,019 and $1,219, respectively. Just direct from Bigscreen, which sounds like a fancy storefront, but who really knows.
Here’s the kicker: People are really into this headset. I mean, back in March, their pre-order sales blew past the original Beyond in like, no time. First day? Sold more units than the original’s four-month sales. Say what? Eleven days in and they’d already surpassed all of Beyond 1’s first year. Talk about popular demand, am I right? So now they’re like, expanding their LA factory and hiring all these new folks. But why do I always think LA is just about movies?
Oh, and tangent alert: if you were one of those early birds who snagged Custom-Fit Cushions by May 7th, expect those around mid-August. Seriously though, why would VR cushions take so long? Halo Mounts? Those are holding off till September or October. Manufacturing delays, they say. I guess that’s code for “we’re figuring it out.”
Oh, almost forgot! If you’re one of those folks who ordered a Beyond 1 but it breezed right past you, good news. You get an automatic bump to Beyond 2. Feels like being upgraded to first class on a flight that was supposed to happen ages ago. Supposedly, everyone’s getting theirs by July 25th. Fingers crossed.
Last note, promise: Bigscreen was all like, "Oh, tariffs? Nah, we’re not hiking prices." Cool move, considering everything these days seems to be getting pricier. Something about that just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside—or maybe that’s just the weather.
Anyway, keep your eyes peeled or whatever. This headset business moves fast. Or slow. Or—well, you get it.
