Oh boy, here we go again with the whole “market conditions” spiel—like they couldn’t just come out and say it’s because of the “drunken elephant” scenario next door, right? Anyway, so there’s this unending financial back-and-forth going on between Canada and the U.S. And guess what? It’s gonna hit Switch 1 games, hardware, and everything else north of that 49th parallel. Nintendo of Canada’s already been chatting about it.
So, their big announcement says, “Hey, prices for our Nintendo Switch systems and stuff in Canada are gonna shift. Why? Market conditions.” Yeah, they tossed in everything: the Switch versions, games, accessories, you name it. Even those cute little Amiibos aren’t safe. More news dropping August 1, so hold onto your hats.
Now, look, Switch hardware in Canada? You’re looking at roughly $260 for the Lite, $400 for the LCD, and $450 for the OLED. Don’t forget that minimum 5% sales tax cherry on top. Games and stuff? They run $15–$20 more than the U.S. Madness, right? The loonie’s at $0.7334 against the U.S. dollar right now—not too shabby compared to when the console launched back in March 2017. But there’s a new trade deal in the pipeline, so who knows what’s next.
And speaking of the Switch 2, prices in Canada are nuts. $630 just for the system, $700 if you’re getting it with Mario Kart World. Mario Kart World’s sitting at $110 MSRP/eShop, and Donkey Kong Bananza preorder’s up for $100. Honestly, which one of us left our wallet in 2010?
