Oh man, so this Resident Evil Requiem bit was like, totally the biggest thing coming out of June’s Capcom Spotlight. I swear, we were all hyped for this killer gameplay demo – you know, seeing it in all its spooky glory. But, did we get that? Not really. Just a peek, like someone teasing you with a whiff of freshly baked cookies then locking the kitchen door.
Anyway – wait, actually, that’s where I’m going with this. What we did see was Capcom kind of laying out why they’re steering this sequel ship the way they are. And honestly, maybe I’m the only one who noticed, but there was this whole Creators’ Message vibe – you know, those behind-the-scenes chats that are half talking, half flashy clips? Yeah, that. Some gameplay, but mostly, it was a face parade.
Oh, and speaking of faces, let’s talk about the game’s main star, Grace. Turns out, she’s got this whole legacy thing going on. Descended from the Ashcroft family – remember Resident Evil Outbreak? If you know, you know. And apparently, Requiem’s ditching the Winters family drama — taking us back to the big Raccoon City ties and Umbrella conspiracies. Makes sense with the big 3-0 anniversary and all.
Now, I bet you’re thinking, “Why isn’t Leon in this one?” Right? His ties to the city are legendary! Well, Capcom’s like, Leon’s too fearless. They needed someone who could reflect our own panic. Enter Grace Ashcroft. She’s like us! Kind of. But she’s also FBI, which means she can handle a gun, so there’s that blend of realness and competence.
And oh, in case you missed the updates from Summer Game Fest – and seriously, you might have blinked and missed them – Requiem lets you go all first-person or third-person, your pick. Capcom apparently figured people have a preference and stick with it. Smart, I guess?
Anyway, mark your calendars or scribble on your hand or something: February 27, 2026. That’s when we’ll dive into this with PCs, PS5s, and Xboxes blazing. Feels like we’ve got a ways to go, but, you know, time flies when you’re waiting for zombies.
