Assassin’s Creed Shadows Update Introduces Horse Auto Navigation and Additional Features

Assassin’s Creed Shadows players will now find themselves meandering through the vast and varied landscapes of central Japan for endless hours of gaming delight. If you’re feeling like switching off your mental gears during those long horse rides along the picturesque countryside, you’re in for a treat with the latest update. A familiar feature makes a comeback in the first significant patch for the game, allowing for a more relaxed journey.

Released on Tuesday for all platforms, the version 1.0.2 update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows revamps the “pathfinder” feature for your character’s trusty mount. Your horse will now intuitively navigate roads, using the game’s turn-by-turn guidance to transport Naoe or Yasuke seamlessly to their next destination. Fans of the series might recognize this feature from earlier Assassin’s Creed titles like Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla, making its absence at Shadows’ launch somewhat puzzling. (But don’t worry, you can still take the reins whenever you feel like riding manually.)

Moreover, one visual improvement brought by the patch is the removal of the GPS line when snapping screenshots in the game’s beautiful photo mode. Alongside the return of the auto-follow feature, the update also conveniently increases horse speeds in urban areas.

Another noteworthy enhancement from Tuesday’s update is a time-saver when dealing with loot. Players can now sell or dismantle items in bulk, selecting multiple resources in the shop or Forge to clear them with ease. Leaving the Forge, you might notice a new level of smoothness as the frame rate cap in the Hideout has been lifted, letting the game surpass 30 frames per second. Additionally, for those playing on a PlayStation 5 Pro, the patch brings support for Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, enhancing graphical fidelity.

The update also introduces further improvements. Players can individually reset Mastery nodes within Naoe’s and Yasuke’s skill trees. While respec options for entire trees like Tools or Shinobi have always been available, the node-by-node reset adds fresh strategic flexibility. Speaking of navigation, a handy new shortcut allows players to quickly access the game’s sleek objective board by holding the Options/Menu button.

Interestingly, the v1.0.2 update doesn’t touch the somewhat overpowered legendary weapon, the Igan Sunset. The tanto remains untouched, boasting a potent perk that, when paired with certain skills, allows Naoe to dart between adversaries with lethal efficiency—a feature noted by our own Tyler Colp.
