Meta’s Beat Games just dropped a bomb. Beat Saber, everyone’s favorite “slice-those-blocks” rhythm game, isn’t getting any more love on PSVR and PSVR 2. Yep, updates are gone. Poof. And multiplayer? Say goodbye early next year.
So, there I was scrolling through X (that’s Twitter, for anyone living under a rock) when I saw it: Beat Games announcing they’re ditching updates for PS4 and PS5 versions. They’re all “big leap” this and “future” that. Honestly, makes you wonder if they’re plotting a VR world takeover or something… or maybe just a sequel. Who knows?
But here’s the thing—they’re not yanking everything. You can still play and grab Beat Saber on PSVR platforms. Got DLCs? You’re good. Bought music packs before June 18th? Still there. After that? Nada. Oh, and that Lady Gaga ‘Abracadabra’ track from June 5th? That’s your final encore.
Fast forward to 2026, multiplayer support’s getting the axe on PlayStation. Did you ever play on PC VR or Quest? That started back in 2020, with cross-play a year later. But PlayStation? Nope, it never got to join that party. Talk about feeling like the odd one out.
Quest players, though? Laugh all the way to more updates. Over 10 million Beat Sabers sold there. Steam fans? You’re safe too—no changes in sight.
And isn’t it ironic? Meta, a company not exactly known for playing well with others, still backed Beat Saber on PSVR since 2018. But, the times they are a-changin’, I suppose.
Remember when Sony dropped PSVR 2 back in February 2023? It’s like they stopped caring about exclusive games after that. And you know what happens when you stop caring—devs move on. They’re all about that Quest and SteamVR life now.
Oh, and Sony even turned PSVR 2 into this Swiss Army knife of VR. Plug it into a PC, add a wire, use those Sense Controllers with Apple Vision Pro… who’d have thunk it? It’s a wild world we live in.
