### Merciless As The Sea
Portia Maye didn’t always wield the title of The Houndmaster. Once, she was set for a typical life, filled with the warmth of her father’s love and a yearning for high-sea adventures. Her tranquil beginnings were shattered when the infamous pirate Mad Molak attacked her father’s ship, Nightsdream, leaving a path of destruction behind.
Portia, spared from death to serve as a celestial guide, soon drowned in a vortex of vengeance. She ultimately steered her father’s ship into a notorious locale known as the Dragon’s Tooth, ensuring her foes met their demise beneath the waves. Fate—perhaps crueler than even the sea—granted her survival, alongside her only companion, a loyal pup named Snug.
Remarkably, at one point, Portia was the epitome of a survivor. Not only did she endure the catastrophe of Nightsdream’s fall, she survived being stranded for years. Her reality was consumed by a thirst for revenge, growing fiercer each year.
Unbeknownst to her, the Dragon’s Tooth was a Bleed—a place where worlds overlap. These bizarre sites blend realities much like colors on a painter’s palette.
“That’s the peril of entering a Bleed,” notes Lead Narrative Director Jessi Thind. “It either claims your life or your sanity.”
Driven mad yet gaining proficiency in violence, Portia transformed into a Killer more terrifying than even Molak. As her vendetta reached its grim conclusion, her place in The Entity’s realm was sealed.
Her only remaining tie to humanity is Snug, who fiercely embodies that bond. The Houndmaster’s power showcases Snug’s skill at hunting down Survivors, a testament to their unbreakable connection.
### For The Black Talon
Among the ranks of the Black Talon, a faction of the infamous Black Vale, Taurie Cain spent her life peeling back the layers of The Entity’s secrets. Her parents, driven by their research, journeyed into a Bleed, with Taurie later following suit to avert complete disaster.
This event cemented her dedication to their dark cause, propelling her swiftly through the ranks. While Survivors like Haddie Kaur and Elodie Rakoto have encountered Black Vale’s forces, Taurie sought the darkness, believing The Entity could unlock true immortality.
“Taurie genuinely sees her mission as a boon for humanity,” Thind explains. “Her rise, unfortunately, led her deeper into darkness, reaching a point where she had to make a defining choice.”
Her pivotal test came during a ritualistic task to eliminate Jordan Rois—stepbrother of Survivor Haddie Kaur. On the brink of execution, Taurie hesitated, one of her final actions before entering The Fog.
In The Fog, Taurie confronted the truth of her faith. Her understanding quickly twisted into horror. Rather than shattering her, this conviction only reinforced her purpose remains yet unfulfilled.
“Her fidelity to the Vale could serve her well in The Fog,” Thind continues. “Taurie maintains faith that everything is part of the journey to becoming recognized by The Entity as a disciple—a Killer.”
Yet, why did The Entity first draw Taurie in as a Survivor?
“The Entity is compelled by emotions,” Thind reveals. “It likely sees value in having someone like Taurie, who naturally clashes with her fellow Survivors. The tension and mistrust this generates feeds The Entity.”
No matter the discord, Taurie resolves to endure. Her abilities emphasize breaking from the group and leveraging her pain as an advantage.
Curiously, both Portia and Taurie navigated Bleeds, albeit with Taurie remaining mostly unscathed. Had things been different, perhaps their roles could have swapped. Still, once a path is chosen, there’s no turning back when it leads into the veiled Fog…
