Pragmata just snagged 466 votes, putting it ahead of some serious contenders like Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond—all titles that seem likely to launch over the next year. But this isn’t some random blip on the radar. Since it was first unveiled in 2020, Pragmata has consistently ranked high in these Famitsu reader polls. In recent years, it’s regularly been one of the top three most anticipated games. In fact, to find an issue where it didn’t make the top 10, you’d have to flip back to September 2023.

Now, the numbers might catch you off guard, but they don’t really tell the whole story. We’ve only had glimpses of Pragmata for the past five years, mostly through flashy cinematics and short gameplay snippets. So, what’s captivating these Famitsu readers? I have to confess, the initial reveal piqued my interest too. But thanks to its turbulent development journey, it’s joined the ranks of projects like Deep Down in my mind—a visually stunning Capcom project that generated buzz but never actually made it to our consoles.

What we do know about Pragmata mainly comes from Capcom’s own marketing materials. They’re calling it “an all-new action adventure” that paints a picture of a near-future dystopian world set on the moon, backed by a “deeply profound story and setting.” You’ll find these same descriptions on both the PlayStation and Xbox stores.

Earlier, the development team expressed their regrets, saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we must further postpone the release of Pragmata. Our team is currently hard at work making the best game that we possibly can, but we need more time. We will continue to do our best to ensure that the final product is one that is worthy of your patience.”

So, is Pragmata destined to languish in development purgatory like Deep Down, or could it rise triumphantly, much like Fumito Ueda’s The Last Guardian did, surprising even its most loyal fans? Could Capcom be stalling for a release on next-gen consoles? It’s anyone’s guess, really. What is undeniable, though, is that Pragmata has left a significant impression on the gaming community.
