Among the announcements, they unveiled the next Universes Beyond set for MTG, continuing their trend of integrating popular culture into the game. This time, it’s Avatar: The Last Airbender making its magical debut, following in the footsteps of iconic characters like Wolverine and Sephiroth. In a teaser video, they revealed that this set will hit the shelves on November 21.
What makes this set particularly interesting is that it will be Standard legal, meaning you’ll be able to mix those elemental bending cards with your regular MTG deck. This move aligns with a broader trend for the Universes Beyond sets, which have transitioned from being non-Standard legal to full participants in regular play. This blend of worlds gives MTG an eclectic feel, kind of like how Super Smash Bros. brings together diverse characters. While some long-time MTG fans miss the exclusive fantasy world they’ve come to love, the Universes Beyond sets offer a fantastic entry point for both returning fans and newcomers who are drawn to the game due to the inclusion of beloved characters from different universes.
