Sure thing, diving right in. So, there’s this game, right? “Two Falls – Nishu Takuatshina,” and it’s a whole thing about story-telling, kinda like two different lenses or something. You’ve got these two folks – one dude, Maikan, an Innu hunter, and this gal, Jeanne, who’s, like, part of that “Daughter of the King” crew.
Picture yourself in 17th century Canada. It’s wild. Jeanne ends up, erm, off course after her ship – L’Intrépide, what a name, hits some snag. Just her and her pooch, Capitaine, make it out. Meanwhile, Maikan’s worried about his home turf ’cause things are going south, environmentally speaking. He’s trying to figure out what’s up with that. Totally different vibes from each other, but that’s kinda what makes it tick.
There’s this bit where you switch between them, using the joystick wizardry on your controller – left for movement, right to, uh, look around? Press L2/R2 if you’re in the mood to sprint. It’s like you’re switching hats, and the hat colors each view different. No kidding – the stuff you’ll notice: the landscapes, the stories, the critters. You interact by pressing X and sometimes, boom, you gotta choose what you’ll do next. Decisions, decisions.
Jump into the Codex by hitting that Touchpad thingy. It’s like a diary but fancier. Jeannie sees one thing, Maikan another. Wildflower facts and bullfrog sounds – they mix in reality sprinkles.
There’s a platinum trophy too. If you’re a collector, your mission – should you choose to accept – involves quirky things like hearing a bullfrog croak or giving Capitaine the good ol’ bone. Maybe petting him too. Easier said than done?
Anyway, this whole shebang is cooked up by some folks with roots in those Native communities up north. Plus, they roped in some First Nations elders. It’s on PlayStation 5, if that’s your jam.
Shoutout to Affordance Studio for handing over a PlayStation 5 copy for this deep-tissue dive.
