I’m working on a review for the game Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island, and to get deeper insights, I caught up with Alex Kanaris-Sotiriou, co-founder of Polygon Treehouse. Join me for a glimpse into this fascinating title!
PS4Blog: Good morning, Alex! It’s great to have you back. How’s everything going on your side?
Alex: Thanks for having me! It’s been full-on since our last game, Röki, hit the shelves. Diving into Mythwrecked has been a refreshing change. This time, we’re peering through a different lens, shifting from Scandinavian myths to imagining the Greek gods as they might exist in our modern world.
PS4B: So, Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island is heading to the Nintendo Switch on December 5. What should players expect from this new journey?
Alex: We’re calling Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island an ‘explore-o-story’ game. You step into the shoes of Alex, a backpacker taking a break from the daily grind, only to find their vacation disrupted by a strange storm. Stranded on a mysterious island, your quest is to befriend Greek gods, help them regain their memories, and, ultimately, find a way back home.
PS4B: How long have you been working on this project? Have there been significant changes from the initial concept to what we’re about to experience?
Alex: We started brainstorming about three years ago. The core elements, like radar treasure hunting and memory flashbacks, remained intact from the get-go. However, the ‘Story Sandbox,’ involving dynamic conversations with the gods, has evolved significantly. It took several iterations, but I’m thrilled with the outcome. It truly immerses players in an unfolding story narrative.
PS4B: Röki received a physical release. Are there any plans for Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island to follow suit?
Alex: I have a bit of a soft spot for physical releases and was delighted to see Röki get one. Currently, there’s no news on that front for Mythwrecked. However, it’s definitely something I hope might happen down the line.
PS4B: We’re wrapping up now. Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Alex: Just a heartfelt thanks for tuning in! If you’re into cozy games, mythology, adventure, or mystery, I’d encourage you to explore Mythwrecked: Ambrosia Island. We believe this adventure will leave a lasting impression.
