Well, okay, so here’s the gist: Red Bull and Jonathan Griffith Productions have dropped this new thing called Touching the Sky on the Quest. I mean, it’s wild because you can now tag along with wingsuit base jumpers in the European Alps and a paragliding crew over in the Himalayas in Pakistan. Yeah, that’s right—it’s a whole hour of mind-bending, immersive doc stuff.
So, they used these funky custom-built cameras, all 3D and 360, you know the drill. And you’re flying—sort of—with these athletes, Fred Fugen and Vincent Cotte. Two flights in the Italian Dolomites. Can you imagine? Fred says it was a real puzzle figuring out the freefall thing with those cameras. He goes on about working with drone pilots from helicopters. I swear, just synchronizing those jumps must be like trying to dance while juggling flaming torches. Anyway, who knew they didn’t even train together much beforehand? Talk about winging it. Literally.
Then, we’ve got Aaron Durogati and Matthias Weger doing their thing paragliding over the icy peaks of the Pakistani Himalayas. Aaron mentioned something about the wild thermal flows there—so different from the Alps. Kind of eerie, if you ask me. Like, if you mess up, you’re basically on your own because rescue helicopters? Yeah, not happening. Contrast that with the Alps, where you can almost always expect a rescue to swoop in. Comforting, right?
And hey, if you got a Quest 2 or newer, you can watch this whole documentary for free on Meta Quest TV. Not too shabby. But here’s the kicker: they also put out a thirty-minute behind-the-scenes look. Shows you what it really took to capture all this madness. Pretty intense, I bet.
That’s about it. No clue why I got so into this, but you probably should check it out if you get the chance.
