Sure thing, let’s dive right in. So, Saber Interactive, you know, those folks who just seem to get how to make complex driving simulators into something we all actually want to play? Yeah, they’ve been at it for a while now, with their Runner series. First, there was Mudrunner back in 2017. I remember playing it and thinking, “Why am I enjoying driving in the mud so much?” And then, bam, Snowrunner! They really turned it up a notch amid all the snow and sludge. And oh wow, just last month, they dropped Roadcraft. And can I just say, it’s like they gave us the keys to a construction site with better graphics and objectives that actually make you feel clever. Like, who knew building stuff could be this thrilling?
People seem to be loving it, too. The publisher’s parent company, Focus Entertainment, is practically doing backflips over the game’s success. Apparently, they called it one of their “most successful launches.” Honestly, good for them. When Ed reviewed the game, he went on about it being a perfect example of how even the weirdest subjects can become awesome games. I mean, not everyone thinks construction is exciting, but here we are. The satisfaction of completing those construction tasks is pretty unmatched, even against, say, big blockbuster RPGs where you’re slaying dragons left and right. I can’t quite explain why. It’s like a secret sauce or something.
And those player numbers! Wow. On Steam, it seemed like everyone and their dog was trying it out on launch day. Pullup Entertainment, which owns Focus, gave a shout-out about Roadcraft’s smashing performance; we’re talking over 600,000 players. I don’t generally get into numbers, but that sounds wildly impressive for what some might call a niche game. Geoffroy Sardin, Pullup’s CEO, made a big deal out of the first few weeks, claiming it’s one of the best starts they’ve ever had. No biggie, right?
There’s even a YouTube clip out there, all shiny and enticing. Makes you want to try the game yourself, doesn’t it? Personally, if simulators are your jam, you can probably find a way to snag it on Steam. Not saying it’ll change your life, but who knows? If this isn’t up your alley, no worries! There are other nifty sandbox games or builders to fool around with. We have guides and reviews coming out of our ears, so you’re bound to find something interesting. Oh, and if you’re deep into these topics, you might want to join us on Discord. It’s a pretty cool space to discuss games, or random stuff, you know, whatever floats your boat.
