I hope summer’s treating you well! Let’s dive into some XR tidbits I stumbled upon this week. Oh, and there’s a BEATABLE giveaway buried in here somewhere, so keep an eye out!
Weekly Highlights
Meta’s Sneaky Updates
So, there’s been some data mining (thanks, Luna!) and now we’re all buzzing about potential new Quest features. Here’s what’s allegedly brewing:
-
Horizon Home Makeover: Imagine expanding your pad with portals and shareable windows. Sounds like it’s morphing into a piece of Horizon Worlds. Peculiar, right?
-
Central Plaza Facelift: The revamp might make it zippier and slick with its UI. Oh, and you get to peep at your home from the skies in different worlds — random, but intriguing.
-
Events Arena Debut: A fresh spot for happenings. Think concerts, parties, who knows what else.
- Horizon Photoreal Buzz: Remember that mind-blowing demo? Yeah, might morph into an app where you can scan places with your phone and toss them into the digital ether. Kind of genius if you ask me.
Mind you, these are just whispers, and none are gospel until Meta Connect gives its blessing. Or not.
Shiny New Gadgets
-
Brilliant Labs’ Smartglasses: Come July 31st, we might meet these spectacles. Given their past gizmos like the Frames and Monocle, I’ve got high hopes.
-
Sharp’s VR Controller: Out of the blue, voila, a hybrid glove-controller thing. Tactile segments for haptic feedback — not that anyone asked for it, but here we are.
-
Meta’s EMG Wristband: Imagine writing or tapping in mid-air — super intuitive movements to interact with whatever Meta’s cooking.
- Google’s Prototype Drama: Display expert Karl Guttag smells something fishy with Google’s TED/I/O demos. Could be fancy lab prototypes masquerading as legit products. Tread lightly there, pal.
Games, Games, Games
-
VR Games Showcase Landing: Mark August 12th for this. Promises of juicy announcements for titles we’re all itching to play.
- Putt Window: Real putter, real ball, but virtual course. So cool, unless you forget and smash something at home.
Just another day in the XR universe! Now grab that iced beverage and indulge in these virtual escapades. Or, if you’re like me, just get lost in daydreams of what’s next.
