Bungie’s ‘Marathon’ Set for September Launch on Xbox, Closed Alpha Arrives This Month

Today, Bungie lifted the veil on their upcoming title, Marathon, an extraction shooter that’s got the gaming world buzzing. For those eagerly awaiting its arrival, mark your calendars: Marathon lands on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S on September 23, 2025.

In this game, players will have the chance to become Runners—cybernetically-enhanced mercenaries each boasting their own unique abilities. You and your team, comprising up to three members, will face off against AI security forces and other Runner teams. Engage in strategic battles while gathering weapons, implants, and other gear along the way. Survive, and you’ll keep all your hard-earned loot for future adventures.

Imagine dropping into a zone with your teammates where the primary goal is to loot as much as possible and make it out alive. Be prepared to encounter threats at every turn, from AI-controlled security forces to competing Runner teams, each posing a unique challenge. For those who really want to test their mettle, there’s even an option to delve into the fray solo, going up against entire teams and surviving on your wits alone.
