As all my colleagues, die-hard fans of the Elder Scrolls, celebrate today’s unexpected launch and thrilling stream of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, those of us looking ahead can find a glimmer of excitement in Todd Howard’s confirmation that The Elder Scrolls 6 is, indeed, still in the works. Yes, you heard it right—he openly admitted that the team is actively engaged in developing the next chapter.
Just before diving into the treasure trove of Oblivion Remaster news and footage, Howard nonchalantly mentioned, “Obviously, we’re working on the 6th chapter here.” Quite the revelation! To put it into perspective, this is the juiciest tidbit we’ve received about The Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024. Back then, Bethesda let slip that the early builds were being tinkered with by testers. They even dropped a vague but tantalizing hint—it’s supposed to be fun, which, let’s face it, is the least we expect.
Before this, we had a spicy tidbit from a former Skyrim designer in October 2023, warning us not to expect any updates until six months before the game hits the shelves. Just a month prior, Phil Spencer optimistically suggested that the game might be released within five years. At the time, it seemed almost laughable, yet here we are, almost two years later, still wandering in the dark for more details.
To be fair, concrete updates from Bethesda have been conspicuously absent. Last we heard, in August 2023, they confirmed development had indeed kicked off, marking five years since the grand announcement at E3. Now, call me crazy, but is it just me, or did they unveil this game a little prematurely?
All jokes and sarcasm aside, it’s heartening to see even the smallest signal from Elder Scrolls 6. It feels like a lifetime ago since its announcement. I was still tackling school assignments, and now I’m juggling adult responsibilities, complete with bills, questionable habits, and a slew of dating apps. Bethesda, still revered as a premier RPG developer, will surely deliver something extraordinary. But come on, throw us a bone here—maybe some artwork? Honestly, even Liam Neeson had more concrete leads on his daughter’s whereabouts in “Taken” than we have for the actual existence of this game.
