So, guess what? Nintendo’s like, “Hey, wanna pay for some Switch 2 games?” even though, well, you can’t even get your hands on the console yet. Classic, right? Out of some weird habit, I found myself hunched over my screen, zooming into the “Game file size” details on every single page. Why? Who knows. Just me being me, I suppose.
And surprise, surprise, these game sizes are bigger than I thought. More like hefty PC games than those cute little Switch ports. Makes sense, though—Switch 2’s supposed to be like a beast or something. Running games at 1080p with insane frame rates. But hey, you’ll still turn around and find that its 256 GB gets swallowed up real fast. Like, poof, gone. Here’s a fun bit: just a couple of these new games will have you staring at an empty storage message real soon.
In total, we’re talking 300 GB, easy. So now what? Well, guess it’s time to get chummy with some microSD Express cards. Isn’t it wild to splurge on storage for a console you’re not even holding yet? Yet, if you’re asking me (not that you did)—stocking up on the biggest card you can stomach isn’t a terrible call. These things? They’re like speed demons compared to the old cards. Expensive as heck, too.
Oh, and don’t bother trying to use your ancient microSD cards in the Switch 2. That’s a no-go, unless you’re just itching to browse through vintage screenshots or video clips from your old Switch. Anyway, where was I going with this? Right, think about those storage cards. Might save you some future headaches. Or not. Who knows.
