Man, I was just sipping my coffee when I came across this bit about Google gearing up for something big at their I/O shindig. You know, that annual developer geek-fest they throw? It sounds like they’re about to drop some smart glasses. Yeah, go figure. Like, right in the face of those Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. Talk about audacity, huh?
So there’s this guy, Sameer Samat, some head honcho of Android stuff, casually showing off these glasses in some promo clip. He didn’t really spill the beans, but he threw some major hints our way — basically, we’re gonna see some cool Android tricks. Not that I have any clue what “cool” means in tech these days, but hey, stay tuned.
It’s wild, but with some YouTube screenshot wizardry (okay, power of the crop tool), we noticed these glasses give off such a Wayfarer vibe — you know, classic Ray-Ban style. And bam, there’s a camera on the left side. Seriously? Who decided that?
Picture this: a teeny-tiny LED, probably to tell you when you’re being filmed like some unknowing reality TV star. It’s all very spy-movie-esque. The arms of these glasses? Chunky, no doubt stuffed with batteries and processors. Oh, Android XR may be in the mix here — which is a big deal if you care about tech acronyms. Or maybe you just like fancy glasses… whatever floats your boat.
I spotted something odd, like a slit or maybe a button — not sure. But if I were a gambling person, I’d say it’s got something to do with audio. Or not, I mean, who knows what’s going on under that arm.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone, the folks over at Apple are cooking up their own spectacle magic. Bloomberg says they’re crafting a processor just for this. Gives you that “who’ll win the gadget war” vibe, doesn’t it?
All of this will unfold on May 20-21. You betcha it’ll be a circus of livestreams, developer sessions, and whatnot. I’ll be glued to the screen, sorta. But you can catch it live on YouTube if you’re into that kind of thing. 10 AM PT — mark your calendars or just forget and catch up later. Whatever works.
Check out the teaser moment, if you dare:

Yeah, good luck making sense of all this tech-vironment.
